Review:

My daughter won this in a giveaway. I found the title and subject matter interesting so borrowed it from her.

This was a very inspiring account of a spiritual journey
of Jack R. East, Jr. The basis of this journey was in
two consecutive dreams he experienced at the latter part
of 2010.

He presents this without overbearing preaching, nor in
presenting his views and experience as absolute gospel.
Jack effectively ‘shares’ his experience the uplifts, and
inspires the reader to gain their own faith and experience.
His is an amazing experience and sustains the belief of
some, that we lie in an age of constant miracles.
I highly recommend this book to all Christians and to
those seeking a greater source of hope and meaning of life.

I heartily review this book, giving it a Five Stars rating.

Book Description from Amazon:

This is the story of the life and Christian faith of Jack R. East, Jr. and of two powerful dreams he received after fifty-five years of following his faith. The dreams confirmed in living color, surround sound, high definition, and on the big screen

Review:

‘Paint Me True’ is a novel about a twenty-nine
year old woman who has dated a “Nerd” for six months.
She had recently moved to Oregon and didn’t know many
people. She was a professional painter and was house-
sitting for her new stepmother. She hadn’t dated much
and Len (the “nerd”) was always nice to her. When he
asked her out, she did not want to hurt his feelings
and it was “just a date”. She kept dating him because
she was lonely and he always seemed eager to go out
with her. Now, after six months, uncharacteristically,
he prepared a special dinner date. She was going to
have to hurt him by telling him “no” when he proposed.
However, things didn’t go as she planned. Seeing him at
church each week was awkward.

A few weeks after the “disaster date” she received a
call for help from her Aunt Nora, in England.
The females of her family suffered from the BRCA 1
mutation which caused cancer of which most had died
from, early in life. Eliza had lost her mom and two
sisters from it. Her and Aunt Nora were the only women
in that side of her family who were free from the
genetic curse. They were very close. Nora had two
children but refused to talk about them. There was nobody
but Eliza who could help. This also gave Eliza an escape
from her precarious situation at church. She immediately
booked a flight to England.

When at the hospital, Eliza was escorted to her Aunt’s
room by tall, gorgeous man she discovers was the nurse,
Colin, who was taking care of her aunt on the night shift.
Within days Aunt Nora was released to Eliza’s care, but
not before Nora slipped the nurse a paper with Eliza’s
name and telephone number on it. They began dating,
occasionally.

While staying with her aunt, she does special paintings
for her aunt and learns more about the uncle she never
knew. Theirs seemed like a fairytale romance. She never
knew he was so wealthy until after they had fallen in love.
Now, Aunt Nora lived alone in this beautiful mansion.
Mysteries began to unfold: accidents, questions concerning,
her cousins, and other relatives.

Amidst it all, Eliza, often reflected on her relationships,
and the pros and cons between them.
This is a romantic drama/mystery that will captivate the
reader. The indecision is at times irritating but the
action, and suspense makes up for it.
This is a bittersweet story of love, relationships,
choices, self-discovery, friendship and family loyalty.
This story relates to L.D.S. Single Adults but is a great
book for any adult or YA religious or not.
This book was generously exchanged for an honest review of which I have given.

I review this book, giving it a Five Star rating

Book Description from Amazon:

Eliza Dunmar is about to turn thirty-one and fears her best days are behind her. Soon she’ll be too old to attend church in a singles ward, her career as a painter is no longer considered cool, and she feels too old to use the excuse that she’s “just starting out” to explain why she still can’t pay the bills. The only man interested in her is a scruffy, video game addicted nerd who is the first to admit that they are all wrong for each other. When her beloved Aunt Nora calls from England and begs her to visit, Eliza leaps at the chance. Even better? Nora had the perfect romance with her late husband and is eager to share the tale. As Eliza sets out to immortalize this courtship in a series of paintings, she learns a lesson that will change her outlook on life and love forevermore.

Review:

This was a sequel to ‘CROSSING VALUES’. The story was well-written. The momentum kept building to the end but the intensity left one slightly disappointed. After years of searching, Ryan’s parents have found his sister Amber. Furthermore, she is getting married. Still angry with her for abandoning him years ago, he loves her deeply. He needs to be there for her and make sure the man she is marrying is OK. When arriving in the very small community of Crossing, Ryan cannot believe Amber would settle in such a small place. His concerns for her deepens. Will Amber’s fiancé’ pass the scrutiny or is she making mistake? A few other instances occur leaving him to question many things.

Many experience adversity in life of a much greater impact. It felt like something greater was going to happen n the story but did not occur.

It still was still a very good and clean book worth one’s time to read.

Book Description from Amazon:

After ten years, Ryan s parents found his runaway sister, Amber. Now, as he drives to meet up with her and his parents before her wedding, his mind fills with the changes coming. Besides figuring out where she will fit into his life, a job change is on the horizon for him. But should he stick with small town life? Or should he move to Portland, Oregon? Meeting the family his sister is marrying into only brings more questions. Maybe moving to nearby Portland is the better choice. But something about the town of Crossing calls to him. Is it the friendly people who openly accept him as Amber s brother or the cute brunette who happens to be sister of the groom? As Ryan weighs the pros and cons, He decides to put God to the test. Will He answer? Will He let him know which choices to make? And what if Ryan doesn t like the answer?

{Book Review} Confessions of a Prodigal Daughter

November 3, 2013 By bodyandsoul Leave a Comment

Love to read but not sure which book to read next? Read this 4-stars book review of, Confessions of a Prodigal Daughter by Sarahbeth Caplin below.

On Sundays, we post a review instead of our regular free books post because we give our blog manager the day off to enjoy the Sabbath. But, you can check out the links to a list of free Kindle Christian books here.

Book Title and Author: Confessions of a Prodigal Daughter by Sarahbeth Caplin

Genre: Christian Inspiration

Review:

Sarahbeth was raised Jewish all her life…
albeit not strictly Jewish. She had experiences
in her young life which made her want to avoid
Christians. She held little regard for them.
However, she attended public schools so was
exposed to many Christian attitudes and
traditions.

She decided at seventeen she would become a
Jewish Rabbi and was determined to do so even
into college. During her college years she had
experiences which led her to question her Jewish
faith.

This is a works of Sarahbeth and her testimony and
musings of her life in High School and College
that led to the biggest change in her life ever.
She ends her story at her life at the present time.
The questions and challenges she has experienced
can be an inspiration to others. It can also cause
Christians to question, “Am I truly a Christian?”
“Do I strive to live my life as Christ did His?”
“Through my words and actions, do I strive to lead
others to Christ or do I cause them to turn away?”

I found her memoir interesting and perhaps it is
because I truly find others lives and experiences
memorable. I truly care about my fellow being.
Either way, many of us will benefit fro reading this
book.

I was given this book by the author for an honest
review, of which I have given.

Book Description from Amazon:

Growing up Jewish in a conservative Catholic town, Sarahbeth Caplin fought to create a genuine Jewish identity. But as she tried to observe Jewish rituals, and even considered a call to become a Rabbi, she felt increasingly drawn to Jesus. Confessions of a Prodigal Daughter is a story about the struggle to reconcile two seemingly contradictory sides of yourself. It’s a story about leaving what is comfortable and familiar, sacrificing some relationships in the process, in order to find one’s true purpose.
